Hyoyoung Kim

Bassist and composer Hyoyoung Kim majored in classical piano at Ewha womens university in South Korea, then moved to Boston to study jazz at Berklee College of Music. During studying Jazz piano, Kim was strongly drawn to the sound of upright bass and began to study the acoustic bass also. In Boston, she had her solo concert "Hyoyoung Kim concert" at Berklee Performance Center(BPC) and got Berklee Asia tour scholarship and CJ Music scholarship.

After graduation from Berklee with Bachelor of Music, Kim moved to New York and graduated from New York University with Master of Music on Jazz Studies under Alan Ferber who was nominated two times for the Grammy Awards. In New York, she was awarded CJ Cultural Foundation Scholarship for a graduate student and had lots of performances on various venues with Afro-Peruvian band, and other bands. Additionally, Kim recorded her first album with Alan Ferber as a trombonist and drummer Mark Ferber.

Since returning to South Korea, Kim has been playing for a variety of performances like FIMU Festival in France(2017,2018), PyeongChang Winter Olympic in South Korea(2018), Ubud village Jazz Festival in Bali, Indonesia(2019), Taehwa River Internationl Jazz festival in South Korea(2020) and many recording sessions.
